Juan Jose Sabines Guerrero
Governor of the State of Chiapas
Juan Jose Sabines Guerrero is a young man who leads the political transformation process in Chiapas, from a lucrative activity involving the misuse of public funds to a form of dignified life of public service.
The son of Don Juan Sabines Gutiérrez and Maria de los Angeles Guerrero, Juan Jose is married to Maria Isabel Aguilera and has two sons, Juan and Jaime, and a daughter, Isabelita.

He majored in Political Sciences and Public Administration from the Iberoamerican University and has continued his academic preparation in fields such as International Relations –UNAM-, Public Finances –Berkeley University, California-, Municipal Civil Service –Iberoamerican University- and Social Doctrine of the Church in the IMDOSOC.

In the professional field he had focused mainly in the promotion of social development with extremely good results in overall people’s benefit as well as in the efficient management of public resources.

Career path. 1994. - Advisor in Representation of Chiapa’s government in Mexico City.

1995. - Medical Services, Assistant and Social Development Director at the Cuauhtémoc District, Mexico City. He promoted programs as important as the Attention for the Street Children.

1997. - State Delegate in Chiapas of I.P.O.N.A.M.

1998. - Assistant General Secretary for the PRI State Directive Committee in Chiapas.

1999. - President of the Colosio Foundation in Tuxtla Gutiérrez.

2000. - General Secretary of Municipal PRI in Tuxtla Gutiérrez and President of the PRI’s Municipal Directive Committee also in Tuxtla.

In 2001 Mr. Sabines was elected Local Legislator for the East zone in Tuxtla. The people usually don’t make mistakes about the object of their affections and Juan Sabines Guerrero has inherited not only his father’s name but also a great share of his charisma, the same love for the common citizen who, in return, puts in the son the hopes and care once received by Don Juan.

As local congressman he didn’t just commit himself to legislative labor, but he also took part of a tireless social work in favor of Tuxtla Gutiérrez inhabitants; specially caring for children living on the streets, single mothers, battered women, elderly people and handicapped citizens among other needy groups.

As legislator, Mr. Sabines was an active member of ten legislative commissions. He presided over the Social Development Committee and was Secretary of Health and Tourism. He was the first President of the LXI Legislative Directive Board and stand out for being one of the most active congressmen filing a large number of initiatives: the Equity of Opportunities for Elderly Adults law, the Chiapas’ State Youth law, the Tourism Promotion law and the State Law for the population of the State of Chiapas.

In 2004. - Candidate to Municipal Presidency of Tuxtla Gutiérrez; conclusively getting the electoral victory by more than 90,000 votes on October 3, 2004. During his period as Municipal President, a significant number of infrastructure works were developed along with a continuous support to the elderly, promotion of Museums, etc.
